Research Themes

Signal, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Group is a new research group (2020) formed by Dr. Athanasios Koutras, Assistant Professor at the ECE Department of the University of Peloponnese. Although new, SIPPRE has already managed to bring together a number of great value academics from universities and research centers, Post Doc researchers, PhD Students as well as graduate students, in a collaborative workspace, where they can produce high quality research in the field of digital signal processing and pattern recognition.

The group’s research themes fall mainly into the following three areas:

A. Audio Processing and Analysis
  • Speech processing
  • Speech recognition
  • Blind Source Separation
  • Music information retrieval
  • Emotion recognition from speech and music signals
B. Biomedical signal processing and analysis
  • EEG brain signal analysis
  • Sleep study of brain functionality using EEG
  • Brain Computer Interface (BCI) applications
  • Brain Computer Interface (BCI) applications in entertainment
  • Emotion recognition using EEG signal analysis
C. Medical Image Analysis
  • Detection of cancer in digital mammograms
  • Recognition of abnormalities in digital mammograms
  • Computer Assisted Diagnosis system design
